Thank You!

Several years ago, the Transport Museum Association was awarded $1.25 million dollars in Transportation Improvement Projects (TIP) funding for construction of The William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education & Visitor Center.

TIP is a federally funded program and MoDOT administers the funds.  I would like to thank David Shoemake at MoDOT for his help as we have worked through this program.  He has has always taken the time to answer my questions - all of them - as I have submitted the necessary paperwork to receive the progress payments! He has been most helpful and patient.

This has been an exciting project to watch unfold. Thank you.

Jane Saunders is working her magic in the new Creation Station.
Jane has spent the past few days, and many more to come, painting a mural on the walls for children of all ages to enjoy.
Just 32 more days until the new facility opens.  We are working hard to get everything in place.

It’s all in the name!

The ‘official’ name has been placed on the new building.  ’The William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education & Visitor Center’ is days away from completion.  Then, the process of moving in begins!  Watching the name go up on the building was very exciting.  Additionally, the fencing was put up for the new miniature train stop.  Before you now it, our train crew will be yelling ‘All Aboard!’

This year promises to be the best year ever at the St. Louis Museum of Transportation.  We will open The William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education & Visitor Center; unveil two new exhibits:  ’Roads, Rivers, and Rails,’ and ‘The Whistle Stop - The President Travels by Train;’ and begin operation of the expanded trolley line.  2012 - a year of change at the Museum.  I am very excited to see the Museum transform into an ever better attraction.  We have more exhibits in the works and we will announce them soon.
